Dean Duvall, age 89, of Dothan, Alabama, formerly of Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, February 14, 2026.
She was born April 4, 1936, in Marshall County, Alabama, and was a 1954 graduate of Albertville High School. She later married her high school sweetheart, Johnnie Ray Duvall, and together they shared 68 wonderful years of marriage.
Dean was a loving and devoted minister’s wife who cared deeply for others. She found joy in her family, trips to the beach, fishing, flowers—especially her roses—and anything covered in chocolate. Her gentle spirit and caring heart will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Springdale Baptist Church in Boaz, Alabama, with Richard Clinard officiating.
She is survived by her daughters, Denise Duvall Harrison and Donna Hicks; grandchildren, Michelle Thornton Barfield, Jay Thornton (Valarie), and Jody Hicks (Jessica); great-grandchildren, Damien Thornton, Katherine Thornton, Emily Thornton, Samuel Thornton, Ryleigh Thornton, Jax Hicks, and Julian Hicks; and a special granddog, Guss.
She is also survived by her brothers, JC Ferguson (Amanda), Joe Ferguson (Sandra), and Howard Mahan (Jeannie); sister-in-law, Terry Duvall Abate (Jim); and brother-in-law, Bruce Jones.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Grover and Willie Ferguson; her beloved husband, Johnnie Ray Duvall; and her sisters, Joyce Jones, Hazel Stanfield, and Jane Lindsay.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Southern Care Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
