Edgar Baker Obituary

Edgar Neil Baker was born on December 28, 1950, in Dothan, Alabama. He was affectionately known as Neil to many. He was a loving father, brother, son, and loyal friend.

Neil loved nature, especially the water and the ocean, the mountains, and cold weather. He was an avid Alabama football fan and loved talking football with his boys.

Neil lived a life dedicated to serving others. He spent four years in the National Guard, served with the United Nations as an international police officer, and devoted over 25 years to his community as a police officer in Mobile, Alabama. During his career, he proudly served in several specialized units, including the Mounted Unit, the SWAT Team, and as a Homicide Detective. His years of service reflected his courage, dedication, and heart for protecting others.

In retirement, Neil found peace on the water in his beloved houseboat, where he spent his mornings and evenings fishing from the dock in solitude while reading a good book. He was known for finding joy in the simple things: family, Alabama football, and the beauty of the great outdoors.

Eventually, he felt drawn back home to Ashford, Alabama, where he spent his days riding back roads on his motorcycle, cracking pecans from the tree out front, golfing, sharing meals with lifelong friends, and enjoying the small-town life he loved.

Neil was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Gwendolyn Baker.

He is survived by his beloved sons, Joshua (Natalie) Baker and Zachary (Allyson) Baker, of whom he was so proud; his treasured grandchildren, Blaze (20), Emery (17), Eli (14), Eleanor (12), Emerson (11), and Everett (8); and his cherished sisters, Carol (Omar) Humphrey anD Sheila Baker.

He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, at 11:00am at Dothan First Church of the Nazarene in Dothan, Alabama.   Flowers will need to be taken to the church the day of the service.
