James Earl Baker was born on July 21, 1941, and was the third of twelve children. He married the love of his life, Dorothy “Dottie” Wilkerson, on March 28, 1965. One year later, they began an intense study of the Bible, which led them to dedicate their lives to Jehovah in 1968. Jehovah blessed their union with 54 wonderful years of marriage until Dorothy’s passing on June 14, 2019.
Because of his deep love and devotion to Jehovah, James began full-time pioneering in the year 2000. Throughout his working life, he labored alongside many of the brothers in the congregation as a concrete mason and finisher. He was also in partnership with his brother, Jimmy Baker, and together they opened Baker Cement & Concrete Company. While he took pride in his trade, James considered his most important work to be helping others learn and gain knowledge of the Bible. His soft tone and gentle voice reflected his warm and loving personality.
James leaves behind to cherish his memory: his son, Willie Arthur White (Cassandra); two grandsons, Dewayne Turner and Derrick Turner (Samantha); and seven great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his sisters: Edna Morrison, Arrie Mae Daniels, Ethel Pearl Baker, Annie Ruth Daniels, and Irene Kennedy; and his brothers: Shirley Young (Raleigh), Charlie Baker, Willie Baker, R.C. Baker, Virlon Baker, and Jimmy Baker (Carol).
James also leaves behind two spiritual daughters, Jannie Daniels (Raymond) and Stephanie Jacobs (Oscar), who were very dear to his heart.
The family would like to express their deep appreciation for the many warm expressions of kindness shown during Brother Baker’s illness. Special thanks to Southeast Medical Center, Encompass Health Rehabilitation, Washington County Nursing Home, and HCA Florida Gulf Coast Hospital for their compassionate care.
